Adamek-Arreola; A reasonable possibility or a fans dream?

According to Boxingscene.com, the proposed fan friendly bout between Secaucus' Tomasz Adamek and top ten heavyweight Cris Arreola is not close to being finalized. Talks have taken between Adamek's promoter Kathy Duva and Dan Goosen, who handles Arreola, but many things have to come together for the proposed April 24 HBO bout to come to fruition.

Adamek, 39-1 (27 KO's), must first get through his February 6 showdown with 2000 Olympian Jason Estrada (16-2 4 KO's). Adamek, who vacated his cruiserweight championship and is unlikely to return to the 200 lb division, challenges Estrada for the IBF International Heavyweight championship over twelve rounds.

Adamek-Estrada Quotes!

Kathy Duva, Main Events: “Tomasz participated in the “Polish Fight of the Century” in Poland, demolishing Andrew Golota. He pretty much made a statement with the heavyweight division. He is now going forward with plans to move up in the division and challenge for the heavyweight title eventually. After facing a very, very big, very slow, very big puncher, Tomasz is now going to come after another guy who is a lot bigger, a lot faster, a lot more mobile than Golota. He get used to another style, get himself acclimated to the heavyweight division where he certainly hopes to continue.”

“This is our 5th fight at Prudential Center, as a matter of fact today is the anniversary of our first fight, when Tomasz won the IBF Cruiserweight title. A good omen!’

Will Carafello, Prudential Center: “Tickets go on sale tomorrow at the Prudential Center box office and at Ticketmaster and we would also like to tell everyone that boxing tickets make a great holiday gift! So don’t just give a sweater or a tie this year – everyone wants boxing tickets! It should be noted that Tomasz’s last two fights at Prudential Center were sold out so get your tickets early because they might not be there.”

Jimmy Burchfield, CES: “I want to congratulate Prudential Center because as Kathy would remember we did the same thing at the Providence Civic Center when we brought Vinny Paz there to fight Joe Frazier Jr. We couldn’t get Vinny on television at the time and we rolled the dice and everybody told us we were crazy, but we put 15, 185 people in the arena and a thousand people outside who couldn’t get in.”

“I was at the Prudential Center to watch the champion (Adamek) fight. I saw this great facility and saw the kind of fights the people want to see. They want to see real fights. This is a real fight. I watched the charisma of Tomasz Adamek going into the ring. Everyone said to us “My God you are going to go into his arena, it’s a hostile place. Your fighter is going to get petrified in that place. I said no he’s not; he’s fought in bigger places.”

“It’s appreciated Mr. Adamek, that you gave Jason this opportunity, but you might have made a mistake in your choice of opponent because this young man is coming to win. This is a victory that puts him back on the top of the map and where he belongs.”

Jason Estrada: “I really honestly think that Tomasz made a big, big mistake. As far as the Golota fight goes, Golota was a big heavyweight in his day, a big puncher, a big strong guy, but that is not the same Golota (that Tomasz fought). To me that’s not really a fight that I would take as a justification to fight me in the heavyweight division. Maybe he should have fought someone else.”

“And then I hear stories that people say he can put me on my ass. It’s not gonna happen. Even in amateur boxing…it’s never happened. In the gym…it’s never happened. In the street…it’s never happened. When I sleep, in my bed…it’s never happened. As a matter of fact I stand up sleeping! So it’s not gonna happen.”

“I work too hard in the gym; I’m just too fast for him. Basically his whole thing about how much faster he is going to be… I’ve seen fast, I’ve worked with Eddie Chambers, I worked with Matt Godfrey, you know these guys are fast. You know I’ve watched his fights; I’ve studied him back and forth, forth and back. Honestly I have to put the DVD on fast forward to make him faster! That’s about equal; put the DVD on fast forward. So honestly he’s a good fighter at light heavy, a good fighter at cruiser, but at heavyweight I think he made a mistake.”

“I want to thank everyone who helped to put this fight together. I appreciate it, I appreciate the opportunity. This is something I have been looking forward to my whole life. I finally got a chance to get a real title, not a toy belt. It’s the real thing so I’m very happy about that.”

Tomasz Adamek: “I am preparing for my Feb 6th fight in my home, Prudential Center, Newark. I think Jason Estrada and I will make a tough fight.”

In response to Estrada saying Adamek made a mistake in taking this fight - “Anyone can talk before a fight, but inside the ring, that’s what you get paid for that’s when you have to work. I think I will win this fight.”

“Once I catch somebody I am going to put them down, so wait until February.”

Adamek-Estrada February 6 in Newark!

Secacus' Tomasz ‘Goral’ Adamek (37-1, 27 KO), the lineal and Ring Magazine cruiserweight champion, after knocking down powerful, four- time world heavyweight championship contender, Andrew Golota twice in Poland, continues his quest to further his heavyweight career. On February 6th at Prudential Center in Newark Adamek will take on Jason “Big Six” Estrada (16-2, 4 KOs) of Providence, Rhode Island, in a 12 round IBF Heavyweight International Championship fight. The fight is promoted by Main Events and Ziggy Promotions in association with Classic Entertainment and Sports Inc.

In his typical, confident manner Adamek said, “I signed to fight Jason Estrada on February 6 in my home away from home – Prudential Center in Newark.“ Jason Estrada is a completely different fighter than Andrew Golota – obviously younger, much faster, he can throw 60 punches a round. Against Estrada you have to be on your guard all the time, in every round. I did see his fight against world-class fighter Alexander Povetkin, Jason was busy, he wanted to fight – exactly what I like to do in the ring. This style of fight practically guarantees that on February 6 all my fans will have an action-packed, no holds barred confrontation.

The difference between me and Povetkin will be very evident – I will do everything required to do what nobody has done to Jason before – knock him down. He’s never fought anybody as quick and accurate – I will not be intimidated by the number of punches he throws in every round – I welcome it.”

Estrada, who represented the United States at the 2004 Olympic Games in the super heavyweight division and won the gold medal at the 2003 Pan American Games, has no reservations about coming to Adamek’s home turf to fight. “I think this is a great opportunity and I want to thank everybody involved in helping to make this fight. I guarantee it’s going to be a spectacular show February 6th. I want to thank Adamek, too. He’s a great fighter but he’s probably going to regret making this fight because I’m bigger, stronger, faster and quicker. We’re going into this fight expecting to win.”

Kathy Duva, CEO Main Events, expressed her delight to have Adamek come back to Prudential Center in Newark. “We thoroughly enjoyed the Golota fight in Poland, but it will be fantastic to be back in Newark to entertain all the enthusiastic NJ NY fans again. The feeling in the arena when Tomasz fights at ‘The Rock’ is electric. Tomasz has a great desire to win heavyweight championships and this fight will once again show he has what it takes. Tomasz always gives 100% and this fight will prove no different, it’s a terrific match.”

An exciting six-bout undercard featuring local fan favorites is being finalized and will be announced shortly. Tickets go on sale 12/11.

Diaz Takes Out Paneto in 2:53!

New Brunswick super bantamweight Jorge "Kid" Diaz continued his string of impressive victories after getting rid of late replacement Luis Paneto in the opening round last night in Atlantic City. Diaz bullied Paneto from the opening bell and ended the fight with a huge right hand to the head. The Puerto Rico based Paneto remained on one knee until he was counted out at 2:53.

"I didn't even know anything about Paneto", said Trainer "Mikey Red" Skowronski, who arrived in AC early Saturday morning after training Jeremy Bryan in Newark the previous night. "He was a last minute replacement but Jorge looked very sharp in camp (so I know we wouldn't have any problems."

Diaz' next fight will take place January 23 at Madison Square Garden, the same venue where he scored a highlight reel knockout over Yan Barthelemy.

Bryan Demolishes Fallen!

Newark, NJ – Jeremy “Hollywood” Bryan once again displayed why his moniker fits the bill after putting away Darren Fallen inside of two rounds last night in the main event of “The Brawl in Brick City” at Essex County College in Newark, NJ.

Both men took their time in the opening moments of fight, with Bryan patiently throwing jabs while Fallen tried using his reach advantage from the outside. Near the end of the first, Bryan decked Fallen with a short left hook, but the Philadelphian made it back to his feet to finish the round. Bryan picked up where he left off in the second, dropping The 18 fight veteran hard to the canvas with a huge right hand.

The game Fallen arose from the knockdown but was dropped between the ropes shortly thereafter following a strong combination, forcing his corner to throw in the towel at 2:35.

“We set him up with the jab to keep him honest and we figured him out (fairly quickly)” Bryan said after the fight. “I worked hard for this fight so I could show the fans who the true Jeremy Bryan is and it is my turn to shine now!”

Bryan, of Paterson, NJ, is now 13-0 with 6 KO’s, while Fallen drops to 12-5-1 (6 KO’s).

Italian import Floriano “Flash” Pagliara scored a minor upset in the co-feature after outhustling previously unbeaten junior lightweight Antonio “The Tiger” Espinosa. The fleet footed Espinosa had success early on by boxing and moving, but Pagliara’s constant pressure proved to be too much. Scores were 59-55 and 58-56 twice for Pagliara, who improves to 10-3 with 6 KO’s. Espinosa of nearby West New York, NJ, falls to 11-1 (1 KO).

Locals Tyre Roberts, Eddie Edmond and Alex Mendez each won four round decisions, while former amateur standout Juan Rodriques scored a highlight reel first round knockout with a monstrous right hand cross. The fight between 2008 National Golden Gloves Champion Denis “Mommas Boy” Douglin and Joshua Snyder was scrapped at the last minute due to issues with necessary medicals.

The Brawl In Brick City was presented by Edmonds Promotions. Edmonds Promotions next card is tentatively scheduled for March.

Known for his willingness to mix it up, Diaz, 10-0 (6 KO's), is amongst the most exciting fighters in the Garden State. Pantelo is riding a wave of momentum as well with a victory against 13-1 Rafael Valenzuela in his last bout.

Arnaoutis Drops A Hotly Contested Decision in NYC!

In a split decision that surprised many, Atlantic City's "Mighty" Mike Arnaoutis lost his bid to regain the vacant USBA Junior Welterweight belt against Baltimore, MD's Tim "Pit Bull" Coleman.

Coleman and Arnaoutis' styles did not mesh well, with the latter pressing the fight while Coleman countered, relying on movement and timing. Even with action severely lacking at points, both the broadcast crew and his adopted hometown crowd at The Manhattan Center believed that Arnaoutis did enough to warrant a victory, but the slicker Coleman came away victories. Scores were 115-113 twice for Coleman and 116-112 for Arnaoutis.

For the record, Arnaoutis threw and landed more punches at a higher connect percentage but Coleman did land a good number of crisp shots.

The victory raises Coleman's professional ledger to 17-1-1 (4 KO's), while Arnaoutis drops to 22-4-2 (10 KO's).

Adamek Calls Out Haye!

During the past three weeks, two Cruiserweight Champions have made news with impressive wins in the heavyweight division. Last Saturday in Germany, David Haye of England won the WBA Heavyweight title by defeating Russian giant Nikolai Valuev. Two weeks earlier, Ring Cruiserweight Champion Tomasz Adamek of Secacus, NJ dethroned Polish Legend Andrew Golota in Lodz, Poland with a crushing 5th round TKO in a heavyweight fight that was billed as the “Polish Fight of the Century.”

The juxtaposition of these two wins raises the intriguing possibility that there will be much more action in the recently moribund heavyweight division, as faster, more mobile 200 pounders move up to successfully challenge their supersized, less athletic counterparts. It also begs the question, “When will Adamek and Haye fight each other?”

That question most certainly occurred to Adamek as he watched a tape of the Haye fight earlier this week. The power punching Pole did not hesitate to call out the new champion: “David, if you want to fight against somebody who punches back at your face—not the empty air—you know where to find me,” Adamek declared. “You call yourself the best heavyweight fighter in the world after running scared for the whole fight with Nikolai Valuev? It’s not even funny.”

After criticizing Haye for an exhibition “worthy of the London Marathon trophy” vs. Valuev, Adamek went on to say, “Talking is cheap. People don’t care how big you are during the press conferences. They want to see a man in the ring. I never say too much before my fights and my opponents are not saying a lot afterwards because they are knocked down. You say you want to be a people’s champion. If so, fight me. That’s what the people want.”

There’s no doubt that Haye-Adamek would be a “pick-em” fight, Kathy Duva of Main Events, Adamek’s co-promoter, said. “It’s been a very long time since the boxing public has seen the kind of action in a heavyweight title fight that they enjoyed before the advent of the Super Heavyweights who dominate the division these days.” She continued, “When a heavyweight title fight is exciting, there is always a ‘smaller’ guy in the ring pressing the action. Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, Jack Dempsey and, of course, Evander Holyfield, to name a few, all fought in their primes under 215 pounds. The next great heavyweight will come from the Cruiserweight division and we believe that he will be Tomasz Adamek.”

Adamek’s fight with Golota was viewed by more than 13 million people in Poland, in addition to the 17,000 raucous fans who packed the Atlas Arena in Lodz, to see the fight in person. Adamek crushed Golota, knocking him down twice and winning with a 5th round TKO vs. the four-time heavyweight title contender.

As a cruiserweight, Adamek won his last seven consecutive fights, five by KO. The Jersey City transplant won the IBF World Cruiserweight title last December in a blistering fight with Philadelphia’s Steve Cunningham, and successfully defended it twice in 2009 at Newark’s Prudential Center. Last year, Adamek was awarded the Ring Magazine Cruiserweight Belt, recognizing him as their Undisputed World Cruiserweight Champion.

Adamek will return to the Prudential Center on Saturday, February 6th in a 12-round heavyweight fight. Details will be announced next week.

Garden State residents Deroy Beaton and Chris Green Head to Mohegan Sun This Saturday!

Asbury Park's Chris "Smooth Operator" Green and Toms River's Deroy "Guyanese Warrior" Beaton will each spend their Halloween night in Connecticut looking to wreck havoc at Mohegan Sun Casino.

Beaton, 1-0, takes on unbeaten local favorite Edwin Soto 1-0 (1 KO), over four rounds at Junior Welterweight. Beaton is the definition of a late bloomer in the sport. The 32 year old Guyanese native laced up a pair of gloves for the first time less than three years ago and only had 20 amateur fights. GSFS was on hand for Beaton's debut, a four round decision victory over crowd favorite Jason Sia.

Green, 3-1-1 (1 KO), challenges 6-0 (2 KO's) Frank Trader in a four round Lightweight contest. Green's most recent bout to date was a six round decision over Luquan Lewis in August. The 23 year old Trader most recently scored a unanimous decision victory over rugged veteran Francisco Palacios.
