Beaton Drops Majority Decision; Brown Starts Career off with an L
Toms River's Deroy "Guyanese Gladiator" Beaton dropped a split decision to 19 yr old Edwin Soto in Connecticut Saturday night. Soto, who had more than 80 amateur fights, won the fight on two scorecards 39-37, while the third judge had is 39-37 Beaton.
"No excuses", said Beaton's trainer and manager Shawn Darling. "We had a great camp and Deroy will bounce back stronger."
Darling also notified GSFS that Beaton was offered fights in Rhode Island and Philadelphia but prefer to fight on a December 4 card in Newark.
Also on the undercard, Newark's David Brown was stopped in the first round by fellow debutant Joe Smith Jr. No word as to why Asbury Park's Chris Green did not take on Frank Trader.
