Manager Nelson Fernandez informed GSFS that North Bergen based Junior Flyweight contender Carlos Tamara, 19-4 (13 KO's), will challenge IBF champion Brian Viloria, on December 5. Tamara, who was recently put back into the world rankings as the number 8 contender after surprisingly being dropped, is filling in for Omar Nino.
Tamara is coming off an October 17 unanimous decision over Alfonso De La Hoz in his native Colombia while Viloria, 26-2 (15 KO's), of Honolulu, HI, scored a points victory over Jesus Iribe to defend his title in August.
Team Tamara agreed to terms with Viloria's camp however, if issues arise and contracts are not signed by November 26, the IBF will call for a purse bid.
The Tamara-Viloria match up will more than likely head to the Philippines. Broadcast details will follow.
