Zambrano, Zegarra and Maicelo Victorious in Peru!



North Bergen based Peruvians Carlos "Mina" Zambrano, Juan "JZ" Zegarra and Jonathan Maicelo were all victorious last night at the Jockey Club in their native Peru, fighting before a crowd of around 8,000 people.

Zambrano, a slick boxing featherweight, teed off on Paraguay's Ramon Esparanza from the opening bell before dropping him with a straight right hand 2:15 into the stanza. Esparanza got up holding his shoulder area, prompting the referee to stop the contest.

Zambrano improves to 11-0 (5 KO's). Esparanza returns home with 13-3-1 (6) record.

Zegarra, a physical junior welterweight, swarmed Brasilian Julio Borges and hurt him in the opening round with a strong combination. Zegarra closed the show in the second decking Borges twice, first with a straight left and then shortly thereafter with a vicous head combination, knocking his opponent out.

Zegarra is now 5-0 (5), while Borges drops to 4-3-1 (2).

Maicelo retained his WBC Latino Lightweight belt via ten round unanamous decision over Argentenian Alberto Santillan. Maicelo, who is wildy popular in his homeland, found success in both boxing and brawling, controlling the pace throughout the contest. Scores were not immediately available.

Maicelo upped his professional ledger to 13-0 (8). Santillan slides to 16-6 (6).
