Peruvian Trio Returns June 26!

Manager Nelson Fernandez informed GSFS that North Bergen based Peruvians Carlos Zambrano, Jonathan Maicelo and Juan Zegarra all are returning to the ring June 26 in their native country as part of a big world title card.

Maicelo, 12-0 (8 KO's), battles rugged veteran Alberto Santillan in a ten round lightweight contest. Santillan has been stopped just once, most recently losing a majority decision to 18-0 Marcelino Lopez.

Zambrano, who is regarded as one of the best pure boxers among local up and comers takes a step up in competition to battle Ramon Esperanza. Esperanza has an impressive 13-2 record with 6 ko's and his defeats to well regarded Will Tomlinson and Pier Cote mark both times he previously stepped up in competition. Zambrano, 10-0 (4), and Esperanza meet over eight rounds at featherweight.

In his first bout since a controversial no contest, Zegarra steps into the ring against Julio Borges in a junior welterweight bout scheduled for four rounds. Outside of the no contest, Zegarra is perfect at 4-0 with all four victories coming by way of kayo.

This will be the trio's first bout since February 27, where all three also fought in Peru, with Maicelo and Zambrano scoring first round knockouts.

The card, which is taking place at Jocky Plaza, is headlined by wildly popular female fighter/WBA super featherweight champion Kina Malpartida.
