Paterson's Richard Pierson Returns!

GSFS was notified that Paterson middleweight Richard Pierson will return to the ring Thursday to take on unbeaten Reynaldo Rodriguez over four rounds at Mecahnic's Hall in Worcester, MA.

Pierson, a one time prospect who served as a lead sparring partner for Kelly Pavlik, last fought in August 08', where he was stopped in the last second of a six rounder against grizzled Don Mouton. At 8-2 (5 KO's), Pierson is quite confident he will perform well but is worried about getting a fair shake in his opponent's backyard.

"I'm not worried about him (as an opponent)," said Pierson, who had few soft touch counterparts during his career. "(I am) just worried that if I don't score a (knockout), they will rob me out in his home town."

Rodriguez, 5-0 (2), may the crowd favorite, but like his opponent, will enter the ring with extended inactivity. The Woonsocket, RI native has been out of the ring since May 2004, when he earned a majority decision over Rashard Sanders.

Pierson is also familiar with the position, having fought just two of his professional bouts in the Garden State.

"I was always the opponent in my fights (and) took them on short notice." "I (never had) a tune up or fought a fighter that had more loses then wins, (so) come Thursday night, he will realize what he (got) himself into,"
