Paterson's Richard Pierson had no time to show ring rust, TKOing previously unbeaten local favorite Reynaldo Rodriguez in the first round earlier tonight at Mechanics Hall in Worcester, MA. Pierson decked Rodriguez with an uppercut and when the latter rose at the count of 8, the referee waived the bout off just 2:32 after the opening bell.
Pierson improves to 9-2 (3 KO's) with the victory. Rodriguez, of Woonsocket, RI, drops to 5-1 (2 KO's).
On an interesting note, Pierson informed GSFS that Rodriguez was accidentally announced as the winner over the P.A system before the ring announcer was quickly notified of his mistake.
