Totowa, NJ - Kathy Duva, Main Events CEO, announced their promotional firm won the purse bid held at IBF headquarters in East Orange, NJ, Thursday. The bid was for the right to hold the IBF's junior welterweight title fight between Zab Judah of Brooklyn, NY and Las Vegas, and South Africa's Kaizer Mabuza.
IBF Championships Chairman, Lindsay Tucker explained, "It is a 50-50 split of the earnings between the two fighters. Kaizer is ranked No. 1 by the IBF, and Judah is No. 2. Where the fight will be held is up to the winning bidder."
Judah (39-6, 26 KOs) is promoted by Main Events and his own firm Super Judah Promotions, and Branco Milenkovic, of South Africa, promotes Mabuza (23-6-3, 14 KOs).
Kathy Duva confirmed the fight will take place at Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, late February or early March this year as part of Main Events' Brick City Boxing Series.
"We are very happy that Zab has the opportunity to fight for the IBF Junior Welterweight title right here in New Jersey. Winning this fight will put Zab right in the mix with the winner of Bradley-Alexander and Amir Khan." Duva elaborated, " Zab will work very hard to win this fight so that he will be one step closer to his ultimate goal of unifying all of the Junior Welterweight titles by the end of 2011!"

2010 Garden State Fight Scene Awards!
The last 365 days of New Jersey boxing have been entertaining to say the least. We witnessed both fights that made Sergio Martinez into the sport’s newest superstar and one of the best knockouts in recent memory. Prospects such as Michael Angelo Perez, Glen Tapia, Jorge Diaz, Denis Douglin, Carlos Zambrano, Jorge Diaz and all remain unbeaten. There was also a number of shocking upsets.
GSFS’ staff and a number of other ringside regulars such as Kurt Wolfheimer of Fightnews.com, Marc Abrams and Kyle Kinder of 15rounds.com, Brickcityboxing.com’s Danny Seratelli, Mike Coppinger of Seconds Out and Boxing Insiders’ Scoop Malinowski, recently voted on a number of awards for 2010. All of the mentioned fights either took place in the Garden State or featured a New Jersey fighter.
Fighter of the Year: Tomasz Adamek (Secaucus):
With all due respect to every other fighter in the state, Adamek was an easy choice; easy enough that every writer polled selected him without second thought.
Adamek, a wildly popular Pole who is the biggest thing in New Jersey boxing since the late Arturo Gatti, won all four of his bouts in 2010. His victories included an impressive decision against top flight heavyweight Cris Arreola, former contender Michael Grant and 2004 US Olympian Jason Estrada. In his most recent bout, Adamek battered Vinny Maddalone before the latter’s corner threw in the towel fight during the fifth round.
His next bout is scheduled for April in Poland and it appears that he’ll be taking on hard hitting former titlist Samuel Peter. From there, expect to see him battle one of the Klitschkos or David Haye.
Prospect of the Year: Denis “Da Momma’s Boy” Douglin (Morganville)
Douglin, a 2008 National Golden Gloves Champion who is trained by his mother, had plenty of people chatting about him from the get go due to his chief second. But as they say, action speaks louder than words. During the last 12 months, Douglin was a perfect 6-0 with 5 dominant wins by kayo. In his lone decision win, he lost a single round on one of the three judges’ scorecards.
In addition to only losing one round the entire year, He moved down from middleweight to junior middleweight in March and has looked his best yet since dropping a few pounds. Not bad for a Momma’s Boy.
Honorable Mention: Glen Tapia (Passaic, 2 votes), Carlos Zambrano (North Bergen, 1 vote), Juan Rodriguez (Union City, 1 vote), Alex Perez (Newark, 1 vote), Jorge Diaz (New Brunswick, 1 vote), Lavarn Harvell (Atlantic City, 1 vote)
Editors Note: Some writers selected multiple fighters for the same award
Fight of the Year: Brian Miller SD8 Danny McDermott (Jersey City)
For eight rounds, Danny “Little Mac” McDermott and New York’s Brian Miller went at it as if there were no tomorrow, trading monstrous shots in close quarters. Both fighters kept the crowd on their feet by connecting with a number of punches in a phenomenal action bout, but the Jersey fighter came up just a bit short in this one.
Miller’s conditioning and consistency helped him pull out a close split decision in a bout that we are all dying to see again.
Honorable Mention: Jorge Diaz UD Emmanuel Lucero, Patrick Majewski (Atlantic City) TKO8 Eddie Caminero, Sergio Martinez KO2 Paul Williams
Upset of the Year: Ayi Bruce MD10 Shamone Alvarez (Atlantic City)/ Kaizer Mabuza TKO6 Kendall Holt (Paterson)
There were a few nice upsets pulled off by local fighters (more on that below) however, two of the Garden State’s top rated boxers were shockingly defeated in fights most expected them to win with ease.
In the case of Alvarez, who was one point away from earning a draw during a 2009 title eliminator, he was outfought by a man that he supposed to outfight. A victory against Bruce, a tough but beatable New York based Ghanaian, could have powered him to another meaningful fight in his boxing-crazed hometown.
Holt was surprisingly halted by virtually known South African Kaizer Mabuza. From early on in the fight, Holt didn’t appear to be himself and reportedly struggled to make the 140 lb limit following a long layoff. Mabuza took advantage of this, forcing Holt’s corner to throw in the towel immediately following round six. A victory would have lifted the former world champion to another title shot against then IBF champion Devon Alexander.
Ironically, both men were upset at Bally’s in Atlantic City.
Honorable Mention: Carlos Tamara (North Bergen) TKO12 Brian Viloria, Carlos Vinan (Newark) TKO8 Anthony Mezaache, Vincent Arroyo KO8 Jeremy Bryan (Paterson)
Story of the Year: Sergio Martinez KO2 Paul Williams (November 20)
With all due respect to late baseball star Bobby Thompson, who hit one of the most famous homeruns in baseball history, Sergio Martinez connected with the shot heard round the boxing world in Atlantic City last month.
Martinez, a slick middleweight, was making the first defense of his world title which he won in AC back in April against Kelly Pavlik. Opposing him was Paul “The Punisher” Williams, the same fighter who defeated him via controversial split decision in NJ’s best fight of 09’. This time, there were no judges needed.
Following an action packed first round between the sport’s top two southpaws not named Manny Pacquiao, Martinez connected with a perfectly placed left hook that sent Williams to the canvas flat on his face. The fans and media were both in awe with what they had just witnessed as was Sergio Martinez, who jumped for joy after Referee Earl Morton counted Williams out.
Every major media source to announce their 2010 awards thus far have selected it for Knockout of the Year. Martinez’ picturesque punch was even featured on Sports Center.
Honorable Mention: Adamek’s popularity at the Prudential Center, Glen Tapia serving as Manny Pacquiao’s main sparring partner leading up to the Antonio Margarito fight, Pawel Wolak twice getting avoided by Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
The fight between two New Jerseyans we’d like to see:
There were a total of six fights selected one time each:
Tomasz Adamek (Secaucus) vs Chazz Witherspoon (Paulsboro)
Jorge Diaz (New Brunswick) vs Carlos Zambrano (North Bergen)
Pawel Wolak (Wallington) vs Patrick Majewski (Atlantic City)
Denis Douglin (Morganville) vs Lavarn Harvell (Atlantic City)
Chazz Witherspoon (Paulsboro) vs Maurice Harris (East Orange)
Chazz Witherspoon (Paulsboro) vs Bruce Seldon (Atlantic City)
What we’d like to see in 2011: A fight at the New Meadowlands Stadium
Sure the Giants’ and Jets’ new home doesn’t have the mass appeal of Cowboy Stadium, but it’s a renowned building that cost a number with many zeros on the end to construct. Promoter Bob Arum flirted with the idea of hosting the Pacquiao-Margarito fight there, although it ultimately ended up at the aforementioned Cowboy Stadium.
With the New Yankee Stadium’s notoriety not attracting as many fans as expected to their first ever fight, Miguel Cotto vs Yuri Foreman, and Madison Square Garden scheduled to close down summer due for renovations, why wouldn’t a promoter want to host a fight at Meadowlands Stadium?
East Rutherford is located just minutes outside of New York City, the stadium is available, New Jersey’s evening weather is perfect for a summer sporting event and Cotto will likely take on Margarito in a rematch this summer. Hopefully, Arum considers this great venue, which seats more than 80,000 and would provide an outstanding but yet affordable evening for boxing fans.
Honorable Mention: More world championship fights in Atlantic City, The continuation of Main Events’ “Brick City Fight Series” at the Prudential Center, More New Jersey State Title bouts, the NJ State Athletic Commission assisting local promoters more on club shows

The Rosado-Davis match tops a seven-bout card which begins at 7.30 p.m.
Rosado, 25, comes into the match off an eight-round decision over Jose "Stinger" Medina, of Tilton, NH, on Dec. 9 at the Prudential Center in Newark. After losing the first two rounds, Rosado knocked Medina down in round three and dominated the rest of the contest to earn a unanimous decision.

His biggest career wins have come over former IBF world junior middleweight champion Kassim Ouma and over veteran contender Saul Roman. He has lost to Fernando Guerrero (who was on the floor), Derek Ennis (for the USBA title) and Alfredo Angulo.

Lorenzo Drops Hard Fought Decision to Morales
According to Felipe Leon of Fightnews.com
In a much closer fight than it should have been, hometown legend Erik “Terrible” Morales (51-6, 35 KOs) won a unanimous decision to defend his WBC Silver light welterweight title over late sub Francisco Lorenzo (35-9, 16KOs) of the Irvington on Saturday night at the Estadio Caliente in Tijuana, BC, Mexico. Lorenzo pressured the taller Morales throughout the fight despite Morales landing the harder punches. Morales dropped Lorenzo in the fifth round with a grazing right hand but the Dominican was never hurt. The contest had its bursts of fireworks as both veterans were not afraid to exchange heavy leather, especially towards the later rounds when the fight seemed up for grabs. Scores were Raul Caiz Sr. 116-111, Raul Caiz Jr. 114-113, Zach Young 115-112.
With the win, Morales eyes an early 2011 match up against WBA and WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez in search for his fourth world title in as many divisions.

Douglin Destroys Berkshire!
By E.A. Sirota
Unbeaten junior middleweight prospect Denis “Da Momma's Boy” Douglin of Morganville improved to 12-0, 8 KO after stopping Matt Berkshire in the first of their scheduled six round bout.
Even though he could only find video of one of Berkshire's fights, that was enough for Douglin and his camp (lead by his trainer/mother Saphya) to expose and exploit one of his opponent's shortcomings. Douglin employed a fierce body attack early on and knocked Berkshire down with a well placed right to the ribs. Berkshire fought on, but was floored again later in the first round by a vicious uppercut. Berkshire was able to beat the count, but the referee stopped the fight before he could take any further punishment. “I was able to watch one of his fights on Youtube” Douglin said afterward. “He was hurt by a body shot in that fight too. ”
The stoppage is Douglin's fifth straight KO victory, as well as the sixth first round KO of his career. Berkshire of Morgantown, WV drops to 11-3, 4 KO.

Vazquez Stops Rivera in NYC!
Brooklyn based junior lightweight Rafael “Dinamita” Vazquez moved to 3-0 (2 KO’s) by stopping Paterson Hector Rivera, 2-7 (1) yesterday evening at the Roseland Ballroom in New York, NY. Vazquez scored a knockdown in the first round and managed to get out of some trouble in the second before decking his opponent again in the third with as perfect of a left hook that a fighter can throw. The game Rivera made it back to his feet in bad shape and his night was cut short moments later after a follow up barrage convinced Steve Smoger to call an end to the bout at 1:52.

Lorenzo Steps in to face Morales!
By E.A. Sirota
Irvington's Francisco Lorenzo will face former five-time world champion Erik Morales in the Mexican legend's birthplace of Tijuana this Saturday. Lorenzo (35-8, 16 KO) replaces Jorge Barrios, who's travel permit was suspended because of a pending court case over a car accident in his native Argentina.
Lorenzo will be hoping to replicate the outcome of his 2005 match against Nate Campbell. On less than two weeks notice, Lorenzo beat Campbell in Saint Petersburg, Florida by a ten round split decision.
Lorenzo's manager, Jose Rosario, likes his fighters chances even though he took the fight on short notice and its taking place in Morales' hometown. “He stays in shape and always comes to fight” Rosario said. “He gave Jorge Linares a tough time in Venezuela. He proved a lot in that fight.” Even though Lorenzo ended up on the wrong side of a majority decision to Linares, it was his best showing since scoring a twelve round unanimous decision over Cristobal Cruz in 2007.

Perez Outpoints Hernandez in a Thriller!
By E.A. Sirota
Michael Angelo "The Artist" Perez defeated the dangerous Jose Hernandez in an action packed eight round fight at “Sammy” Rodríguez Coliseum in Aguas Buenas Puerto Rico. Perez's superior foot and hand speed proved to be the deciding factor as the twenty year old Newark earned the eleventh victory of his pro career.
Even though he gave up three inches of height and two inches of reach to the 6'0 Hernandez, Perez was able to control the action from the outside, darting in behind precise lead left hooks. The Mexican-American Hernandez actually got the better of the in-close exchanges, but he absorbed a hard combination each time the shorter Perez was allowed close the distance.
Hernandez did land good number of power punches, and even reeled off about twenty unanswered shots in the third. However, Perez displayed a great deal of resilience as he came back and eventually stumbled Hernandez with a beautiful left hook in the fifth. Perez then showed the patience of a veteran fighter as he picked his shots and saved something for the later rounds.
In the end the scores were 78-74 and 77-75 for Perez, while the third judge had it 78-74 for Hernandez.
Perez is now 11-0-1, 5KO, while Hernandez drops to 10-4, 4KO.

ADAMEK EARNS THE KNOCKOUT!!! MAJEWSKI, CONCEPCION, ALI, AND SIMMS ALL WIN!!!
NEWARK-
Tomasz Adamek finally opened up on the frustrating Vinny Maddalone in the fifth round, first putting him to the canvas with a huge three punch combination. Then finishing him off when Adamek reeled off what seemed like 20 straight unawnsered punches, that forced referee Steve Smoger to call for a halt to the bout at 2:17 of the fifth round. Maddalone was not afraid to get in close and fight with Adamek the entire fight, but it was clear that Adamek is the much better boxer.
Now it seems, Adamek is on to a bigger stage. A Thursday night date with Vinny Maddalone is just not enough for this man. (No disrepect to Maddalone.)A step up in competition is a must for Tomasz, a true test of his heavyweight abilities. A Ring Magazine Champion at Crusierweight, is it time that he gets a shot at the Ring Magazine Champion at heavyweight? 2011 will be certainly an interesting year for Adamek, will the step up in competition really prove that he does not belong in the division? Or will "Goral" continue to roll on much bigger opponents? Either way, it should be an exciting few months for Tomasz Adamek.
Patrick "The Machine" Majewski set the stage for his fellow countryman, who would follow him. Majewski battled for the better part of eight rounds with the heavy handed Eddie Caminero. Vicious shots landed by both fighters in the early rounds put both in trouble at times. A bad cut opened up on Majewski's left eye made the crowd nervous for a few rounds, but the Pole put his fans at ease, berating his opponent with shots that had Caminero teetering on the canvas. It wasn't until 1:20 of the final round that one of these combatants was finally put to the floor, and when Majewski put together a slew of shots, Caminero went down, and referee Sparkle Lee almost immediately waved the fight off.
It was a good showing for Majewski as he battled with a heavy handed fighter that gave him problems early, but bounced back to get the knockout victory. "The Machine" improves to 15-0 and scores his 10th knockout, and Caminero's loss brings his record to 7-4.
Sadam Ali continues his roll early on in his career, defeating a resilient Manuel Guzman in an eight round Welterweight fight. "The World Kid" couldn't put down his foe during their bout, but used his fast hands and slick defense to defeat the iron chinned Guzman, who has never been knocked out in his career. All three scorecards read 80-72 at the conclusion of the fight for a unanimous decision victory for Sadam Ali.
Ali's victory moves him to an 11-0 record and Guzman drops to 7-10-2.
Gabriel Rosado worked through a spirited Jose Medina to earn a decision victory in an eight round Junior Middleweight contest. The battle was exciting throughout, both combatants landing some heavy shots. Early on Medina seemed to confuse Rosado with his style, until the third when Rosado landed a straight right, Medina stumbling backwards for a knockdown. Rosado won the majority of the later rounds, landing more shots, and the harder shots. To Medina's credit he never backed off Rosado, giving him some problems round after round.
The judges scorecards read 80-72, 79-72, and 78-73. GSFS had the contest 78-73. Rosado improves his record to 15-5 and Medina falls to 12-9.
"Marvelous" Tarvis Simms told the Prudential Center crowd that he felt a bit rusty after the tumultuous 14 month layoff from action, but he certainly got his return off to a bang, knocking down Willis Lockett late in the first round. Simms controlled the fight throughout, and although he did get caught with a few shots here and there, kept the fight to his pace and earned the unanimous decision. Stiff jabs from Simms consistently snapped Lockett's head back and was most effective when he went to the body after those shots. It was a successful return for Simms, who looks forward to continuing on his path to glory, even at his age.
The judges scorecards read 60-54, 60-53, 60-53 in the victory for Simms. GSFS also had it 60-53. Simms now stands at 26-1-1 and Lockett falls to 12-11-5.
Newark's own Angel Concepcion bested Lekan "Lucky" Byfield in a four round light heavyweight match-up. Concepcion fought an intelligent fight, keeping the loose Byfield constantly at bay, using body shots to tire out the Yonkers native, who was making his professional debut. Byfield's conditioning came into question late in round one, and throughout the fight thereafter. Concepcion took advantage of this, berating him consistently and seemed to finally let his hands go in the middle of the third, landing flush shots, and hurt Byfield with a few of them. The four round contest went to the judges at the completion and all three judges agreed with a score of 40-36. GSFS had the bout scored the same.
Concepcion improves to 4-0, and Byfield drops his debut, leaving him at 0-1 to begin his career.
Bryant Jennings improved his undefeated record to 5-0 with a TKO victory over Randy Smith. Jennings, fighting out of Philadelphia, staggered the audibly gassed Smith with a right hook, and floored him with a big left to end the contest at 2:18 of the second. While it was clear that Jennings is way out of the 36 year old rookie's league, he still looked sharp, picking his spots wisely, and avoiding most of Smith's punches.
Jennings moves to 5-0 with 3 knockouts, and Smith falls to 0-1.

Berkshire holds a solid 11-2-2 professional record and has 5 wins by way of knockout. The Morgantown, WV native’s two setbacks each came against quality opponents in Jesse Nicklow and Dominic British. He’s also been a pro since Douglin was a senior in high school.

Winning is all Douglin has done thus far in the paid ranks, racking up 11 victories against no defeats with seven of his victories coming by knockout. The 2008 National Golden Gloves Middleweight Champion, who resides in Morganville, NJ, will be fighting in his fifth different state and is eager to impress.

Adamek-Maddalone Card Preview!
By Dylon Silversey
Tomasz Adamek is set to make another appearance Thursday night at Newark’s Prudential Center. The Poland native, now fighting out of Jersey City, has made a second home at “The Rock”, and The Ring Magazine number four rated Heavyweight will bring his usual raucous crowd to pack the arena when he faces off against tough brawler Vinny Maddalone (33-6 24KO).
The Queens native will certainly have his hands full as he is the next target on Adamek’s path to possible future bouts with one of the Klitschko brothers. Already some murmuring around the boxing community about Vitali Klitschko’s camp talking with the Adamek camp about a potential 2011 date, Adamek is not one to take any opponent lightly and look towards the next one.
The task for Maddalone will include the 11,000 red and white clad fans, and a fast heavyweight who seems to never be in the same spot. Maddalone acknowledges this and will try to use a high pressure offense to force Adamek to do just that. Adamek’s boxing style is one where he moves in at the right time to let off combinations and then back out, the heavy handed Maddalone figures his best shot at winning this bout is to land something big and force the champion to slow down and allow him to use a high pressure style to knock him out.
Is Maddalone excited for this bout? You bet he is, agreeing with most experts that Adamek is the more skilled and heralded fighter, this is his chance to really leave his mark on the sport. And he’ll be damned if he doesn’t go out in a brawl.
Adamek (42-1 27KO) will head into this fight doing what he does best, adapt to the style of the fighter brought against him and use his abilities to get the victory. Trainer Roger Bloodworth says it best about this contest “This fight is heart vs. heart. Two guys who are going to leave everything they have in the ring. Everyone watching this fight is in for a real treat.”
And with a win come Thursday night, Adamek is almost all but assured a shot at one of the Klitschkos.
Promoter Main Events also has lined up an undercard featuring highly touted prospect Sadam “World Kid” Ali, Patrick “The Machine” Majewski and “Marvelous” Tarvis Simms.
Ali (10-0 6KO) will try to continue to impress as he squares off against iron chinned journeyman Manuel Guzman (7-9 3KO) in an eight round welterweight contest. Guzman’s record is not impressive, but in his last bout knocked out Adrick Butler in the second round. Ali is riding a three fight knockout streak, alongside his perfect record, and will aim to maintain that.
Majewski (14-0 9KO), an undefeated Atlantic City based Pole, will also use the crowd to his favor as he faces off against knockout artist Eddie Caminero (7-3 7KO). Majewski got a late start to his pro career at the age of 26, but remains unbeaten and hopes to grab more high profile fights in the future. All of Caminero’s victories have come by way of knockout, the latest being in the fourth round, so he provides a tough challenge to Majewski, in a similar way that Maddalone will to Adamek in the main event.
Tarvis Simms (25-1 11KO) returns to action after a fourteen month layoff when he heads into the Prudential Center to fight Willis Lockett (12-10 5KO) in a six round super middleweight fight. Simms’ journey in boxing has been a rollercoaster ride thus far. The 39 year old fighter also got a late start to his pro career at 26 following an excellent amateur career which saw him win the 1993 National Golden Gloves Championship, as well as earn a victory over future world champion Jermaine Taylor along the way.
Boxing politics interfered with Simms path to a world championship, which led to a lack of fights. But Simms remained undefeated until October 2009, when he dropped his first fight to title contender Allan Green by decision. However, a determined Simms returns after signing a multi-fight deal with Main Events, and even at his age, is concentrating on obtaining the goal of becoming world champion.
Other matchups on the card include Newark’s own Angel Concepcion (3-0) against Lekan Byfield, who will be making his professional debut at Light Heavyweight. Gabriel Rosado (14-5 8KO) will square off against Jose Medina (12-8 5KO), Rosado scored an impressive victory over former world champion Kassim Ouma earlier in his career.
Jersey City’s Raymond Biggs Jr. (9-0 6KO) will have his clean record challenged by Philip McCants (8-1-1 3KO) who is on a run of six straight victories himself. Also, Philadelphia’s Bryant Jennings (4-0 2KO) will face Randy Smith, who is also making his debut, in a four round heavyweight fight.
Those that can’t make it to the area can order the bout on pay per view for $29.95.
Newark's Perez Looks to Stay Unbeaten Friday in Puerto Rico
By Eugene Sirota
Lightweight prospect Michael Angelo “The Artist” Perez (10-0-1, 5KO) faces the stiffest test of his young career when he takes on the dangerous Jose Hernandez (10-3, 4KO) this Friday on a Telefutura televised card.
Perez, who compiled a impressive 112-10 record as an amateur, turned pro in 2008 after winning a National Golden Gloves title. This will be the first scheduled eight rounder for the twenty-year-old Perez, who is signed by Golden Boy Promotions.
Looking to play the role of spoiler will be Fort Worth's Jose “Loco” Hernandez. This is familiar territory for the twenty three year-old Hernandez. Since dropping a decision to Matt Remilard in 2006, he has knocked off Noe Balanos and Juan Garcia, who were both only once-beaten fighters before their bouts with Hernandez.

Majewski looks to shine in front Polish fans
By Kyle Kinder (in association with 15rounds.com
Tomorrow night, Newark New Jersey’s Prudential Center will once again transform into “Little Poland” as thousands of Polish fight fans will flock to 165 Mulberry Street to watch Tomasz Adamek square off against New York’s Vinny Maddalone.
But before the legions of Polish fans witness Adamek do battle with Maddalone, they’ll have the opportunity to cheer on another Polish-born, New Jersey-based boxer.
Welterweight prospect Patrick Majewski will look to add another win to his already perfect record when he faces off against Lawrence, Massachusetts’ Eddie “Thunder” Caminero in a bout scheduled for eight rounds.
Majewski (14-0, 9 KO) was born in Radom, Poland, but now resides in Atlantic City, New Jersey, where six of his fourteen professional bouts have taken place.
In his last bout in October, the Polish-transplant defeated New Mexico’s Joseph Gomez (17-3-1, 8 KO) by seventh round stoppage in Kissimmee, Florida.
Majewski first hurt Gomez with a devastating left hook in the fourth round. Three rounds later, Majewski hurt his counterpart again and didn’t let him off the hook. Referee Frank Gentile stepped in and saved Gomez from absorbing further punishment, stopping the bout at the 1:50 mark of round seven.
But even after an impressive performance against tough opposition, Majewski and his team knew there was plenty of room for improvement.
“I made many mistakes my last fight,” Majewski said. “So my trainers — we tried to work on the leg movement, more head movement, and of course, more speed.”
Majewski will have a chance to showcase his sharpened skills against Caminero in front of an expected crowd of over ten thousand fans.
Caminero (7-3, 7 KO), who practices his trade under the watchful eye of “Irish” Micky Ward, has proven he is a rugged competitor who can out-will and out-punch his opponents.
In his last two bouts, Caminero scored upset victories over two seperate opponents, who prior to the bouts, sported a combined record of 14-1.
Caminero’s most recent fight took place in August in Brooklyn, New York against crowd favorite, and previously unbeaten fighter, Joe Smith, Jr.
The Massachussets native served as nothing more than a moving heavy bag for Smith in the opening round, as Caminero found himself with his back against the ropes, standing on unsteady legs.
Caminero was able to gather himself and survive the round, however, and by the third round, he began a relentless campaign against Smith’s body, which visibly took its toll on the taller Smith.
With blood dribbling out his mouth and the fourth round about to come to a close, Smith signaled to his corner he could no longer continue. Earlier in the round, Smith suffered a broken jaw courtesy of the heavy-handed Caminero, who notched his second straight victory.
Majewski is well aware of Caminero’s stubbornness inside the ropes, but is confident that his preparation leading up to this fight will result in a victory tomorrow night.
“I know that he’s tough, but I’m tough too,” said Majewski. “I’ve been training hard for this fight and I’m going to bring my work into the ring.”
Tomorrow night will mark the third time Majewski will fight at the Prudential Center and the second time he will fight on the undercard of an Adamek-headlined event. He knows there will be thousands of fans decked out in Poland’s colors of red and white who will be cheering his name. He also knows he cannot let the crowd become a distraction against a heavy-handed opponent like Caminero.
“It is a big feeling [to fight in front of the Polish fans], I’m really excited to fight over there,” Majewski said. “But during the fight you really have to focus on your opponent — don’t really worry about the crowd or the fans.”
Majewski, who turns 31 later this month, knows that one loss may result in a significant setback to his career and doesn’t plan on letting Caminero play spoiler.
With regards to his approach towards his fight tomorrow night, Majewski said, “Focus on your opponent then worry about the fans. Then after the fight we can celebrate together.”

AC's Shamone Alvarez Comes Up Short In Front of Hometown Crowd
By E.A. Sirota (ringside)
When Ghanaian born Ayi Bruce left Atlantic City last July, having just lost a hard-fought eight round majority decision to Star Boxing prospect Raymond Serrano, he was surely disappointed. Even though it went better than his first fight in the U.S. (3rd round TKO by Emmanuel Taylor), he didn't have enough to upset the house fighter Serrano.
Since that fight, which was on the Tua vs. Barrett undercard at Tropicana, Bruce picked up two wins over opponents with a combined record of 22-48-4. Star Boxing must have thought they had a known commodity when they matched Bruce with Alvarez in the main event of Saturday's card.
Alvarez, a southpaw, came out looking for a first round knockout and actually caught Bruce with a few flush shots. After that initial onslaught, Bruce settled in and rounds two, three and four were back and forth. Bruce started breaking down Alvarez in the fifth, stepping outside Alvarez's lead foot and landing a powerful right.
“Don't just make this a good fight, you gotta fight to win!” urged Bruce's trainer Andy Schott going into the sixth. That seemed to resonate with Bruce as he snapped Alvarez's head back with several counter right hands, easily winning rounds six though eight.
Round nine was even more decisive, as Alvarez's knee came within inches of touching the canvas after being rocked by another right hand. Going into the tenth Alvarez seemed to sense he was down on the cards, and the fight was close enough that Bruce couldn't sit back, especially being on the road. This resulted in both men going for the knockout, trading hard shots until the final bell.
Bruce earned the majority decision, with by scores of 97-93and 95-94, while the third judge had it even at 95-95. With the win Bruce improves to 18-3, 12 KO and picks up the vacant IBA title.
Previously mentioned Philadelphia welterweight Raymond “Tito” Serrano (14-0, 8 KO) easily knocked out Geoffery Spruiell in five rounds. Spruiell (8-10, 2 KO) got up off the canvas in the first but was ultimately outclassed and over matched as he took a steady mix of head and body shots before quitting on one knee with 27 seconds left in the fifth.
Fan favorite and Wildwood native Chuck “The Professor” Mussachio, pleased his many supporters in attendance, battering tough Floridian Theo Kruger over eight rounds. Even though he gave up roughly twenty pounds to Kruger when they stepped into the ring, Mussachio pushed the bigger man around the ring and even found time for a little showboating. In the end, Mussachio (17-1-2, 5 KO) lost only one round on one judge's scorecard.
Atlantic City resident Althea “Lady Thunder” Saunders improved to 2-0 beating Natoya Ervin in four rounds. Althea later traded her trunks for a dress and preformed a beautiful rendition of the national anthem prior to the main event.
Isaiah Seldon, also of Atlantic City, beat Todd “Viking” Eriksson of Dover, NJ in a four round middle weight match. Seldon Improves to 3-0 1 KO, while Eriksson drops to 2-5-1, 1 KO.
In other bouts Millville's Ismael Garcia(3-0, 1 KO) and Philadelphia's Rashad Brown(2-0) decisioned Joe Yerdon(0-1-2) of Berlin, NY and Corey Preston(0-3) of Cincinnati over four rounds respectively.

Wolak Stops Pinzon in 7!
Pawel "Raging Bull" Wolak, a late replacement for Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. who ironically ended up taking another opponent on short notice after Chavez Jr. called in sick earlier this week, stopped Mexico's Jose Pinzon in the 7th round of their ten round middleweight showdown.
Pinzon appeared en route to scoring an upset in the second when he dropped the Mount Arlington based Pole, but the latter overcame a few rough moments and weathered the storm. Wolak battling back to break down and stop Pinzon on his feet in the seventh round of an entertaining bout. Time of stoppage was 2:24
Wolak is now 28-1 with 18 KO's. Pinzon falls to 18-2-1 (12 KO''s).
With the victory, Wolak should find himself on the cusp of a big fight

Locals Alvarez, Mussachio Highlight Saturday's Card at Bally's Atlantic City
By E.A. Sirota
Atlantic City welterweight contender Shamone “The Truth” Alvarez will square-off against Ayi Bruce of Ghana this Saturday at Bally's Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City. The scheduled twelve round bout will serve as the main event of a card promoted by Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing. Alvarez (21-2 12 KO’s) is coming off the biggest win of his eight year pro career, a seventh round knockout victory over Alexis Camacho this past March. With a win over the experienced Bruce (17-3 12 KO’s), Alvarez would capture the vacant IBA title and would be one step closer to a major title shot in 2011.
Philadelphia’s Raymond Serrano, whose last win came over the aforementioned Bruce in October, will face Geoffery Spruiell in the co-feature. Even though twenty-one year old Serrano (13-0 6 KO’s) is sixteen years his opponent’s junior, he enters the ring with almost as much pro experience as the Spruiell (8-9 2 KO’s).
In other action, Wildwood native Chuck “The Professor” Mussachio will battle Floridian Theo Kruger in an eight round light heavyweight bout. Mussachio (15-1 5 KO’s) is seeking his forth straight victory since losing to Tommy Karpency last October.
Mussachio, who also currently works as a guidance counselor at a nearby elementary school, is one of the true nice guys in the sport. Where some athletes are praised for merely staying out of trouble, Mussachio actually improves his community everyday through his work with troubled youths.
Millville junior middleweight Ismael Garcia (2-0) will fight for the second time in three weeks when he takes on Joe Yerdon of Berlin, NY. Garcia scored a unanimous decision over Corey Preston (who happens to also be on the card against Philadelphia's Rashad Brown) last month at Harrah's.
In a battle of New Jersey based super middleweights, Atlantic City’s, Isiah Seldon (2-0, 1 KO), the son of former heavyweight titleholder Bruce Seldon, will square off against the always tough Dover native Todd Eriksson (2-4-1, 1 KO) in a four round bout.
Rounding out the card is female junior welterweight Althera Sanders fighting an opponent to be announced.

Chavez pulls out of fight; Wolak left hanging
Courtesy: Dan Rafael ESPN
All week, it's been a guessing game: Will Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., battling the flu, fight on Saturday night? Now we know the answer: No.
Chavez woke up with a 103-degree temperature on Tuesday and won't fight, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told ESPN.com.
Rafael's Boxing Blog
Get the latest scoop and analysis on the world of boxing from ESPN.com's Dan Rafael in his blog.
The rest of Top Rank's "In Harm's Way" pay-per-view card will go on as scheduled at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., but Chavez's middleweight main event with Pawel Wolak is off.
Chavez has been under the weather for several days and had missed a few days of training. Because of that, Chavez was struggling to make weight, so the bout had been changed from a 12-round fight at 160 pounds to a 10-rounder with a maximum weight of 165 pounds. And now it's off altogether.
Chavez was feeling well enough on Monday to work out at trainer Freddie Roach's Wild Card gym in Hollywood, Calif., but the temperature returned, Arum said.
"He looked like he had shaken it and he worked out Monday. I was there and I saw it," Arum said. "His legs were a little tight but he worked out OK. [Tuesday morning] he got up with a 103 fever. He tried. You can't fault the kid. You can't put him in a fight with a temperature. It is absolutely legitimate."
Instead of the Chavez-Wolak main event, Arum said he would elevate the scheduled co-feature, a 12-round bantamweight match between the Philippines' pound-for-pound-ranked Nonito Donaire (24-1, 16 KOs) and former bantamweight titlist Wladimir Sidorenko (22-2-2, 7 KOs) of Ukraine.
Donaire, a former flyweight and interim junior bantamweight titlist, is moving up to bantamweight and needs to win in order to preserve a Feb. 19 shot on HBO against unified titleholder Fernando Montiel.
Chavez first became ill on Thursday.
"He got sick last Thursday after sparring and we kind of knew something was wrong," strength coach Alex Ariza told ESPN.com. "He felt a little weak, but he finished 10 rounds [of sparring] but he kept telling Freddie he wasn't in the groove. We thought maybe it was just a bad day, but later that night when he did an interview he started getting the cold sweats.
"He got back in the ring on Monday. He did four rounds, but once he started hitting the mitts with Freddie, he had cramps in his legs and later that night when we went to my house, he had a low-grade fever. [Tuesday morning] he woke up around 7 when we were going to train and he had a higher fever, about 102 or 103, and we knew this was more serious than we thought. I reported to Bob and he said if the kid is sick, he's sick and there's nothing we can do about it between now and Saturday."
Ariza said they didn't want to give Chavez medication a doctor might prescribe because of concerns that something illegal would show up in Chavez's post-fight drug test.
Arum said Wolak (27-1, 17 KOs) would remain on the televised portion of the card and could face Mexico's Jose Pinzon (18-1-1, 12 KOs), although Wolak and his team wanted to view a video of Pinzon before committing to the bout.
Also on the card: lightweight titlist Humberto Soto (53-7-2, 32 KOs) of Mexico defends his belt against Urbano Antillon (28-1, 20 KOs) of Maywood, Calif., and featherweight contender Miguel Angel "Mikey" Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs) of Oxnard, Calif., faces Olivier Lontchi (18-1-2, 8 KOs) of Montreal.
"I'm not going to cancel the show," Arum said. "Anyone who wants a refund at the gate can get a refund. But you can't cancel the show and do that to the kids who were getting ready to fight for the past six or eight weeks. You have an obligation if you can to follow through on the card."
The main event had already been changed once before. Chavez was supposed to face former "Contender" star Alfonso Gomez. But he withdrew last week because of a torn ligament in his left elbow and was replaced by Wolak, a native of Poland living in Mount Arlington, N.J.
This is the second time a Chavez-Wolak fight has been called off. Wolak had been tapped to fight Chavez in September, but Chavez (41-0-1, 30 KOs), the son of the all-time great with the same name, ultimately elected not to fight while he worked out some issues with co-promoter Fernando Beltran.

Rodrigues, 17-1 (13 KO's) will be looking for redemption of sorts as he was well on his way to fighting for a world title until he was upended by Samuel Miller (20-4) in seven rounds back on October 2nd at the Turning Stone Casino and Resort.
Rodrigues has signature wins over Brian Vera (16-3) and has won the WBO Latino Super Middleweight title and defended it one time.

Wolak Fills In For Gomez to Battle Chavez December 4!
Top-10 contender Pawel “Raging Bull” Wolak will be In Harm’s Way on Saturday, December 4, when he challenges undefeated WBC Silver middleweight champion Julio César Chávez, Jr. in a 12-round title fight. Wolak replaces the injured Alfonso Gomez, Chávez’s original opponent, who withdrew today after an MRI detected a ligament tear in his left elbow.
Wolak (27-1, 17 KOs), from Mount Arlington, enters this fight riding a two-year, six-bout winning streak, with three of those victories coming by knockout. The combined record of the last three opponents he defeated — James Moore, Ishmail Arvin and Carlos Nascimento – had a combined record of 56-4-4 when he fought them, which translates into an impressive 88% winning percentage. His last fight, a 10-round unanimous decision victory over Moore (17-2), was fought on the historic Yuri Foreman-Miguel Cotto undercard at Yankee Stadium on June 5. He is currently world-rated No. 7 by the WBA.
"Everything worked out well", said Wolak, who almost fought Chavez previously before the bout fell apart. "I had another fight December 16 so I will be in good enough shape to fight him. We are just finalizing some things (in training) and I don't have to lose any (extra weight)."
A former New York State middleweight champion, Wolak, 29, is known as aggressive, high-pressure style fighter who always makes for exciting fights. Trained by Aroz Gist, Wolak, an East Coast fixture, will be making his West Coast debut when he rumbles with Chávez Jr.
"He is tough but hopefully my pressure will overwhelm him." "I plan to dig deep every round and hopefully I will come out on top. I must thank my promoter Top Rank for this great opportunity and I will be ready."
