Lorenzo Drops Hard Fought Decision to Morales

According to Felipe Leon of Fightnews.com

In a much closer fight than it should have been, hometown legend Erik “Terrible” Morales (51-6, 35 KOs) won a unanimous decision to defend his WBC Silver light welterweight title over late sub Francisco Lorenzo (35-9, 16KOs) of the Irvington on Saturday night at the Estadio Caliente in Tijuana, BC, Mexico. Lorenzo pressured the taller Morales throughout the fight despite Morales landing the harder punches. Morales dropped Lorenzo in the fifth round with a grazing right hand but the Dominican was never hurt. The contest had its bursts of fireworks as both veterans were not afraid to exchange heavy leather, especially towards the later rounds when the fight seemed up for grabs. Scores were Raul Caiz Sr. 116-111, Raul Caiz Jr. 114-113, Zach Young 115-112.

With the win, Morales eyes an early 2011 match up against WBA and WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez in search for his fourth world title in as many divisions.
