Update: Zambrano to face Andrade!

Just moments after breaking the news that Carlos "Mina" Zambrano would appear in a ten round bout April 16 in Peru, Nelson Fernandez informed GSFS via text message that Zambrano will take a big step up in competition to face fringe contender Giovanni Andrade.

A former world title challenger, Andrade, 61-12 (49 KO's), faced the likes of Juan Manuel Lopez, Guillermo Rigondeaux, Johnny Tapia and Celistino Caballero among others. Although many of his wins came against inferior opposition, the Brazil based Andrade has 26 more fights than Zambrano has total rounds as a professional.

The bout is scheduled for ten rounds.

Zambrano wins Fighter and Knockout of the Year in Peru!

North Bergen based Peruvian Carlos "Mina" Zambrano was awarded with the Fighter of the Year as well as Knockout of the Year following a terrific 2010 where he became one of the state's top prospects.

During the last 12 months, Zambrano ended all three of his bouts via knockout, most recently destroying Lante Addy this past October in Union City. Addy, who went the distance with two time Olympic Gold Medalist and current world champion Guillermo Rigondeaux, was stopped for the first time as a pro following a vicious attack from Zambrano.

Along with stablemates and fellow Peruvians Jonahtan Maicelo and Juan Zegarra, Zambrano will return next month in AC.

New Opponent for Zegarra!

Manager Nelson Fernandez notified us that North Bergen's Juan Zegarra will once again have a new opponent when he battles late replacement Bryant Abraham this Friday at Schuetzen Park.

A Schenectady, NY native, Abraham is 2-3-1 with 2 KO's and battled to a draw with unbeaten Edwin Soto this past June.

Zegarra, a Peruvian native with a huge following in his homeland, previously had an opponent fall out at the last minute, which prevented him from fighting on an October 16 card. At 5-0 with all of his wins by KO, Zegarra will be fighting in the Garden State for the first time in more than a year.

Zegarra and Abraham will meet in a six round junior welterweight affair.

Zegarra to face Beeman!

Manager Nelson Fernandez informed GSFS that unbeaten Junior Welterweight Juan "JZ" Zegarra of North Bergen by way of Peru will face Providence RI's Josh Beeman Saturday, November 12 at Schuetzen Park.

With a record of 5-0 with 5 knockouts, the entertaining Zegarra will be fighting in the US for the first time in almost a year. His most recent bout took place in June, where he scored a second round knockout over Julio Borges. Zegarra was scheduled to fight a few weeks back in West New York, but his opponent pulled out at the last minute.

The experienced Beeman is 4-8 with 2 KO's and has shared the squared circle with a number of well regarded fighters including Jose Benavidez, Emmanuel Taylor, Hank Lundy and Paterson's Jeremy Bryan.

"It has not been easy to get Juan opponents," noted Fernandez. "Everybody wants a ton of money to fight him."

Zegarra and Beeman will meet over six rounds.
