Adamek Dominates McBride!

Secaucus' Tomas Adamek won a unanimous decision by brilliantly outboxing former Mike Tyson conqueror Kevin McBride at the Prudential Center in Nweark. The fight was a blow out with Adamek winning every round. Mcbride had no answer for the smaller, faster, and smarter Adamek. McBride, who came in horrible shape at 285 lbs, took this fight for the check, while Adamek came to make a statement. Adamek showed he can stand in the ring with the bigger and stronger heavyweights, as well as that boxing is more brain then brawn.

Adamek, who will face Vitali Klitschko in September. improves to 44-1 with 28KO's. McBride falls to 35-9-1 with 29 KO's.


2008 US Olympian and highly touted Sadam "World Kid" Ali continued his rise up the ranks with a highlight reel third round KO of overmatched Puerto Rican Javier Perez. Ali dropped Ali in the first round and dominated the second, displaying his phenomenal boxing skills and hand speed. In the third, Ali literally put Perez to sleep with a vicious left hook at 2:43.

Ali, of Brooklyn, NY, is now 12-0 with 6 knockouts. Perez slips to 8-5 with 5 kayos.

In the fourth bout of the night, Ray Smith of Little Rock AK, was shot down in the third round by Chicago based Pole Andrjez Fonfara at 1:04. The first roundd had no sparks or fire in the ring, there was more excitement inside of the crowed arena as they cheered for Fonfara. The second round was a repeat of the first as Fonfara searched for the moving and running Smith with his jab like a blind man with his stick. Even without any clean punches landed the crowed still screamed yelled and played horns for Fonfara. In the third round Smith seemed to get tired of dancing and came out to fight, landing a few good shots that forced him to put his back on the ropes and eating a clean right hand that buckled him bad. Smith tried to get back on his one two step but Fonfara had his tune drumming smith with with every instrument in a band and closing the show with the crashing guitar across the head.

Queens, NY based featherweight prospect Josellito Collado earned a tougher than expected split decision over Irvington based Dominican Rafael Lora. Lora boxed surprisingly well and appeared to frustrate Collado, who fought through a bad cut.

Collado was ducked a point in the third round for a low blow, but remained aggressive throughout the contest. The bout appeared winnable for both men heading into the sixth and final stanza, which Collado took by outworking Lora.

Scores were 59-55 and 57-56 Collado and 57-56 Lora.

Collado remains unbeaten at 12-0 with 6 KO's). Lora slips to 11-4 following a better than expected performance.

Jersey City Jose "Mangu" Peralta destroyed Colombia's Eber Perez. Perez came out from the opening bell with hard powerful shots however, he was hurt twice in the first round but made it through the blaze. Peralta opened the second round with lead right hands and left hooks, as Perez just move around and ate every punch like a human punching bag.

Perez got floored close to the bell in the second round, but he made the count and was saved by the bell. In the third round Peralta looked to finish what he had started in the 2nd and applied pressure ripping Perez with a right hand and ending the fight at 2:49 in the third round scheduled for six. Peralta improves to 6-1, 3KO's as Eber Perez drops to 10-17-1, 8KO's

Popular East Hanover welterweight Vinny "The Lion" O'Brien improved to 2-0 (2 KO's) after scoring a thrilling fourth round stoppage over debuting Shakir Dunn of Newark. O'Brien, who is still a work in progress but has a thrilling style, pressured Dunn from the opening bell. Dunn landed a few solid shots to O'Brien's head, but the latter's pressure was ultimately too much for Dunn to handle.

O'Brien dominated the fourth round and swarmed the tiring Dunn, who was out on his feet for more than two minutes before the bout was stopped with just nine ticks remaining in the bout.

Ali Tops Adamek-McBride Undercard!

Brooklyn's Sadam "World Kid" Ali, 11-0, 6 KO's, will step up into the co-feature on Saturday, April 9th vs. tough Javier Perez, of Ponce, Puerto Rico, when Tomasz Adamek faces Kevin McBride at Newark's Prudential Center.

Apparently, Main Events matchmakers, Russell Peltz and Jolene Mizzone, have had their work cut out for them trying to match up the former Olympic standout. It seems Ali has struck fear in the hearts of most of the local welterwieght boxers. Mizzone said, "It's ridiculous, you would think his first name was Muhammad!" Perez, who in his last fight scored a unanimous decision over Alexis Cintron, says he has no problem taking on Ali.

The rest of the undercard promises to live up to the benchmark set by the Main Events Brick City Boxing Series, and to continue thrilling local and true boxing fans

Opponents for Majewski and Laszczyk

PHILADELPHIA (March 29, 2011) - The opponents for undefeated Polish boxers Patrick "The Machine" Majewski and Kamil Laszczyk have been named for their April 1 invasion of the Alhambra Arena in Philadelphia as part of KEA Boxing's "Unfinished Business" card.

The 31-year-old Majewski, 15-0 (10 KO), of Atlantic City, NJ by way of Radom, Poland, will face 32-year-old Allen Medina, 8-18 (1 KO), of Denver, Colorado in a six-round middleweight bout. Majewski is certainly no stranger to the City of Brotherly Love, having won two 165-pound Philadelphia Golden Gloves titles as an amateur.

Former six-time Polish national amateur champion Kamil Laszczyk, 2-0 (2 KO), of North Bergen, NJ by way of Wroclaw, Poland will have his third match in less than a month when he meets Javier Ramos, 2-5, of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico in a four-round super featherweight matchup.

Both Majewski and Laszczyk are promoted by Global Boxing Promotions, which is based out of North Bergen, NJ.

Wolak Ready for Foreman!

Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, Pawel “The Raging Bull” Wolak (28-1, 18 KOs) is primed and ready for the biggest fight of his career when he tussles Yuri Foreman (28-1, 8 KOs) in a ten round main support bout on the Top Rank pay per view extravaganza, featuring Miguel Cotto against Ricardo Mayorga.

“This is an incredible opportunity for me and I am really prepared to give it my all when I step into the ring on Saturday night against Yuri,” said Wolak. “I am in the best shape of my career. This is an even fight and I am ready to do whatever it takes to come home with the victory.”

Mariusz Watches Haggler Tumble; Charles Outpoints McDermott in Newark

Heavyweight Mariusz Wach of North Bergen remained unbeaten following a sluggish third round stoppage over Jonathan Haggler Saturday evening at Essex County College in Newark.

Typically when a 23-0 fighter headlines, the prospects of a notable fight could is on the horizon, but Wach is clearly a work in progress. In the first two rounds, little action took place, as Haggler threw wild shots while Wach struggled to get his hands moving on a consistent basis. A few ringsiders noted that neither fighter truly won either of the two stanzas in a tough to watch affair between the big men. Thankfully, that all changed shortly thereafter.

In the very next round, Wach landed a combination that had Haggler out on his feet. The 6’7 250 lb Pole then connected with a few unanswered shots, sending Haggler down face first. Although none of Wach’s follow up punches was anywhere near devastating, Haggler remained on the canvas and was counted out by Referee Sparkle Lee.

Time of stoppage was 1:22.

Wach, pronounced Vahk, improves to 24-0 with 12 KO’s, picking up the WBC Baltic Heavyweight crown in the process. Haggler heads back to Winston-Salem, NC at 23-4 (18 KO’s).

In what was easily the evening’s best fight, Atlantic City based lightweight Osnell “Prince” Charles outpointed popular Jersey City native Danny “Little Mac” McDermott. Charles effectively landed well timed up-jabs and straight right hands to the head of McDermott, while the latter landed the harder punches.

McDermott was surprisingly docked a point in the fifth round after using his shoulder to push Charles out of a clinch. This only sparked a fire in McDermott, who clearly won the round by aggressively attacking Charles. With the bout up in the air in most people’s eyes, Charles fought a perfect sixth, tagging McDermott with a number of precise punches to ultimately seal the deal.

One judge had the bout 57-56 while the other official tallies were shockingly wide at 59-55 and 59-53. GSFS scored the bout 57-56 for Charles, who would have settled for a draw on our card had McDermott not been docked a point.

“I was never worried (that the decision would go against me)”, said Charles. “My trainer said keep sticking the jab out there (and I knew) I was going to win the fight going into the last round.”

Charles’ victory was his sixth in a row since a 1-2 start. McDermott slips to 8-3-1 (3 KO’s) following his second straight thriller where he came up just short.

In what looked more like a sparring session than an actual professional bout, Atlantic City based pole Rafael Jastrzebski shut out Bowerston, OH’s Randy Campbell. Jastrzebski controlled the bout from bell to bell, winning by scores of 40-36 on al three cards.

After beginning his career 0-6-1, Jastrzebski earned a fourth straight win. Campbell is now 3-4 with 2 KO’s.

In a matchup between two pugilists who share names with successful NBA players, lightweight Scott “Bang Bang” Burrell destroyed Tony Parker in the opening round. Burrell, a former amateur standout, needed little time to show that the novice parker didn’t belong in the ring with him, decking the North Carolinian three times before the bout was stopped at 1:39.

Burrell, of Brooklyn, NY by way of the UK, is 2-0 with both wins coming by KO. Parker returns to Wilson, NC at 0-3.

Newark’s Eddie Edmonds scored a second round KO over Wilson, NC’s Charles White, scoring three knockdowns in the process while barely breaking a sweat in a middleweight affair.

Edmonds improves to 2-1-1 (1 KO). White falls to 0-2.

Time of stoppage was 57 seconds.

Crowd favorite Rashad Bogar, also of Newark, impressively halted Miguel Corcino in the second of a scheduled for round welterweight contest. Bogar dropped Corcino in the opening round and twice more in the second, putting the previously undefeated Camden native down for good with a monstrous right hand.

Bogar ups his professional ledger to 3-2 with 2 KO’s. Corcino slips to 2-1 (2 KO’s).

In the opening bout of the evening, Newark junior lightweight Wanzell “Venom” Ellison kicked off a successful night for the Brick City by demolishing Jimmy “Stick Hands” Smalls inside of two rounds. Although he could’ve made it back to his feet, Sticky Hands didn’t want to get stuck in another bad situation and let Referee David Fields count him out at 2:49.

With nearly 500 pounds between them, the heavyweight matchup between unbeaten Polish star Mariusz Wach and Jonathan Haggler on Saturday night at Essex County College has fireworks written all over it. The 6’7″ Wach, 31, (23-0, 11 KO) of Krakow, Poland weighed in at 249 pounds, while the 6’4″ Haggler, 38, (23-3, 18 KO) of Winston-Salem, NC checked in at 244. The ten round WBC Baltic heavyweight title match will headline “Brick City Brawl”, which is promoted by Global Boxing and Prize Fight Promotions.

In the co-featured bout, Jersey City, NJ’s lightweight favorite Danny “Little Mac” McDermott (8-2, 3 KO) stepped on the scales at a rough and ready 137, while Osnel Charles of Atlantic City, NJ (6-2) weighed 133 for the six round bout.

In a four-round super featherweight bout, Wanzell Ellison (3-0, 2 KO) of Newark, NJ and Jimmy Smalls (pro debut) of Ohio both weighed in at 130.5.

In a four-round lightweight bout, Scotty Burrell (1-0, 1 KO) of Brooklyn, NY weighed 134.5, while Antonio Parker (0-2) of Wilson, NC weighed 135.

Adamek-McBride Rescheduled for April 9!

Tomasz Adamek vs. Kevin McBride, originally scheduled for late April at Newark's Prudential Center has been moved to Saturday, April 9th, it was announced today by promoters Kathy Duva of Main Events and Ziggy Rozalski of Ziggy Promotions.

The cancellation of the planned April 9th PPV bout between Juan Manuel Marquez and Eric Morales, coupled with the proximity of April 23rd to Easter Sunday caused the change.

"Like Tomasz Adamek, many of the Polish fans are deeply religious and the fact that the bout was scheduled for Easter Saturday was troubling to them," Duva explained. "We heard the fans loud and clear and, when the opportunity to move to April 9th presented itself, we decided to move to a date that is more acceptable to our fans.

"We expect that the PPV audiences for the Adamek fight and the Eric Morales fight, which is now scheduled to appear on April 9th, will consist of entirely different people," she continued. The beauty of PPV is that everyone can choose to watch whatever event they prefer. There are so many interesting fights scheduled on this spring that it is very hard to match an optimum PPV date with a date that also works in a big, busy arena like Prudential Center."

Adamek-McBride Moved to Newark!

It's official, Adamek-McBride will take place at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Rumors were flying that, Tomasz Adamek, Jersey City, NJ, 43-1, 28KO's, would be fighting in Poland this April. Kathy Duva, Adamek's promoter and Main Events CEO, confirmed that the Polish boxing star will instead return to "The Rock" on April 23rd to take on Irish born, Kevin McBride, Brockton, Massachusetts, 35-8-1, 29 KO's.

"There were a lot of things taken into consideration when choosing this fight. Overall, though, Tomasz was just more comfortable staying at home for this fight," Kathy Duva, CEO Main Events and Adamek's promoter said. "We'll now focus on McBride, and then focus all of our efforts into the big one in September," said Duva. "I think that his fans at Prudential Center will give Tomasz a great sendoff to Poland in this fight, and I wouldn't be surprised to see some of them in Poland in September."

Most famous for his sixth-round knockout victory over Mike Tyson in '05, McBride will be the largest man that Adamek has ever fought. Adamek will be happy to give his "hometown" fans an opportunity to watch him fight before his scheduled September Klitschko fight.

Adamek to Meet one of the Klitschkos in September!

Tomasz Adamek will challenge one of the world champion Klitschko brothers in Poland in September. The final decision whether it will be WBC Champion Vitali Klitschko or IBF/WBO/IBO Champion Wladimir will be announced in the upcoming weeks. Before the scheduled Adamek clash both Klitschkos will defend their titles. Vitali Klitschko fights WBC #1 ranked Odlanier Solis in Cologne (Germany) on March 19. His younger brother Wladimir will face off with British and Commonwealth Champion Dereck Chisora in Mannheim (Germany) on April 30. Also Adamek plans a fight in April. If both Klitschkos were to lose, the deal with Adamek would be dead. If one loses, Adamek would face the other brother. If both Klitschkos win, the choice of Adamek’s opponent would be decided by the Klitschko side.

Klitschko vs. Adamek will take place in a newly built soccer arena where the UEFA EURO 2012 will happen. Poland and Ukraine are both organizers of the European soccer championship. Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko are already Friends of EURO 2012 and thus official ambassadors of the tournament. Vitali is also a member of the local organizing committee of Ukraine.

“A fight in a soccer stadium needs a lot of handling time. Therefore we cannot wait until all three have done their fights. We will start negotiating with TV station in Germany, Poland and USA in the next weeks to find a suitable date quickly”, says Bernd Bönte, Managing Director of Klitschko Management Group.

“Adamek is very experienced, fast and a hard punching opponent. Whether it is Wladimir or me, we have to be very concentrated during the entire fight. Adamek-Maddalone Card Preview!

Tomasz Adamek is set to make another appearance Thursday night at Newark’s Prudential Center. The Poland native, now fighting out of Jersey City, has made a second home at “The Rock”, and The Ring Magazine number four rated Heavyweight will bring his usual raucous crowd to pack the arena when he faces off against tough brawler Vinny Maddalone (33-6 24KO).

The Queens native will certainly have his hands full as he is the next target on Adamek’s path to possible future bouts with one of the Klitschko brothers. Already some murmuring around the boxing community about Vitali Klitschko’s camp talking with the Adamek camp about a potential 2011 date, Adamek is not one to take any opponent lightly and look towards the next one.

The task for Maddalone will include the 11,000 red and white clad fans, and a fast heavyweight who seems to never be in the same spot. Maddalone acknowledges this and will try to use a high pressure offense to force Adamek to do just that. Adamek’s boxing style is one where he moves in at the right time to let off combinations and then back out, the heavy handed Maddalone figures his best shot at winning this bout is to land something big and force the champion to slow down and allow him to use a high pressure style to knock him out.

Is Maddalone excited for this bout? You bet he is, agreeing with most experts that Adamek is the more skilled and heralded fighter, this is his chance to really leave his mark on the sport. And he’ll be damned if he doesn’t go out in a brawl.
Adamek (42-1 27KO) will head into this fight doing what he does best, adapt to the style of the fighter brought against him and use his abilities to get the victory. Trainer Roger Bloodworth says it best about this contest “This fight is heart vs. heart. Two guys who are going to leave everything they have in the ring. Everyone watching this fight is in for a real treat.”

And with a win come Thursday night, Adamek is almost all but assured a shot at one of the Klitschkos.

Promoter Main Events also has lined up an undercard featuring highly touted prospect Sadam “World Kid” Ali, Patrick “The Machine” Majewski and “Marvelous” Tarvis Simms.
Ali (10-0 6KO) will try to continue to impress as he squares off against iron chinned journeyman Manuel Guzman (7-9 3KO) in an eight round welterweight contest. Guzman’s record is not impressive, but in his last bout knocked out Adrick Butler in the second round. Ali is riding a three fight knockout streak, alongside his perfect record, and will aim to maintain that.

Majewski (14-0 9KO), an undefeated Atlantic City based Pole, will also use the crowd to his favor as he faces off against knockout artist Eddie Caminero (7-3 7KO). Majewski got a late start to his pro career at the age of 26, but remains unbeaten and hopes to grab more high profile fights in the future. All of Caminero’s victories have come by way of knockout, the latest being in the fourth round, so he provides a tough challenge to Majewski, in a similar way that Maddalone will to Adamek in the main event.

Tarvis Simms (25-1 11KO) returns to action after a fourteen month layoff when he heads into the Prudential Center to fight Willis Lockett (12-10 5KO) in a six round super middleweight fight. Simms’ journey in boxing has been a rollercoaster ride thus far. The 39 year old fighter also got a late start to his pro career at 26 following an excellent amateur career which saw him win the 1993 National Golden Gloves Championship, as well as earn a victory over future world champion Jermaine Taylor along the way.

Boxing politics interfered with Simms path to a world championship, which led to a lack of fights. But Simms remained undefeated until October 2009, when he dropped his first fight to title contender Allan Green by decision. However, a determined Simms returns after signing a multi-fight deal with Main Events, and even at his age, is concentrating on obtaining the goal of becoming world champion.

Other matchups on the card include Newark’s own Angel Concepcion (3-0) against Lekan Byfield, who will be making his professional debut at Light Heavyweight. Gabriel Rosado (14-5 8KO) will square off against Jose Medina (12-8 5KO), Rosado scored an impressive victory over former world champion Kassim Ouma earlier in his career.

Jersey City’s Raymond Biggs Jr. (9-0 6KO) will have his clean record challenged by Philip McCants (8-1-1 3KO) who is on a run of six straight victories himself. Also, Philadelphia’s Bryant Jennings (4-0 2KO) will face Randy Smith, who is also making his debut, in a four round heavyweight fight.

Majewski looks to shine in front Polish fans

Tomorrow night, Newark New Jersey’s Prudential Center will once again transform into “Little Poland” as thousands of Polish fight fans will flock to 165 Mulberry Street to watch Tomasz Adamek square off against New York’s Vinny Maddalone.

But before the legions of Polish fans witness Adamek do battle with Maddalone, they’ll have the opportunity to cheer on another Polish-born, New Jersey-based boxer.

Welterweight prospect Patrick Majewski will look to add another win to his already perfect record when he faces off against Lawrence, Massachusetts’ Eddie “Thunder” Caminero in a bout scheduled for eight rounds.

Majewski (14-0, 9 KO) was born in Radom, Poland, but now resides in Atlantic City, New Jersey, where six of his fourteen professional bouts have taken place.

In his last bout in October, the Polish-transplant defeated New Mexico’s Joseph Gomez (17-3-1, 8 KO) by seventh round stoppage in Kissimmee, Florida.

Majewski first hurt Gomez with a devastating left hook in the fourth round. Three rounds later, Majewski hurt his counterpart again and didn’t let him off the hook. Referee Frank Gentile stepped in and saved Gomez from absorbing further punishment, stopping the bout at the 1:50 mark of round seven.

But even after an impressive performance against tough opposition, Majewski and his team knew there was plenty of room for improvement.

“I made many mistakes my last fight,” Majewski said. “So my trainers — we tried to work on the leg movement, more head movement, and of course, more speed.”

Majewski will have a chance to showcase his sharpened skills against Caminero in front of an expected crowd of over ten thousand fans.

Caminero (7-3, 7 KO), who practices his trade under the watchful eye of “Irish” Micky Ward, has proven he is a rugged competitor who can out-will and out-punch his opponents.

In his last two bouts, Caminero scored upset victories over two seperate opponents, who prior to the bouts, sported a combined record of 14-1.

Caminero’s most recent fight took place in August in Brooklyn, New York against crowd favorite, and previously unbeaten fighter, Joe Smith, Jr.

The Massachussets native served as nothing more than a moving heavy bag for Smith in the opening round, as Caminero found himself with his back against the ropes, standing on unsteady legs.

Caminero was able to gather himself and survive the round, however, and by the third round, he began a relentless campaign against Smith’s body, which visibly took its toll on the taller Smith.

With blood dribbling out his mouth and the fourth round about to come to a close, Smith signaled to his corner he could no longer continue. Earlier in the round, Smith suffered a broken jaw courtesy of the heavy-handed Caminero, who notched his second straight victory.

Majewski is well aware of Caminero’s stubbornness inside the ropes, but is confident that his preparation leading up to this fight will result in a victory tomorrow night.

“I know that he’s tough, but I’m tough too,” said Majewski. “I’ve been training hard for this fight and I’m going to bring my work into the ring.”

Tomorrow night will mark the third time Majewski will fight at the Prudential Center and the second time he will fight on the undercard of an Adamek-headlined event. He knows there will be thousands of fans decked out in Poland’s colors of red and white who will be cheering his name. He also knows he cannot let the crowd become a distraction against a heavy-handed opponent like Caminero.

“It is a big feeling [to fight in front of the Polish fans], I’m really excited to fight over there,” Majewski said. “But during the fight you really have to focus on your opponent — don’t really worry about the crowd or the fans.”

Majewski, who turns 31 later this month, knows that one loss may result in a significant setback to his career and doesn’t plan on letting Caminero play spoiler.

With regards to his approach towards his fight tomorrow night, Majewski said, “Focus on your opponent then worry about the fans. Then after the fight we can celebrate together.”

Adamek Undercard Announced!

Local talent will dominate the undercard bouts on Thursday, December 9th when IBF International Heavyweight Champion Tomasz Adamek takes on New York's Vinny Maddalone as the "Brick City Boxing Series" returns to Newark's Prudential Center. A total of nine supporting undercard fights have been scheduled by promoters Main Events, Ziggy Promotions and Star Boxing. Fans who want to catch all of the action should arrive early, as the first bout is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

Heading the lineup will be returning Prudential Center star, Sadam "World Kid" Ali of Brooklyn. The former US Olympic standout has wowed fans at "The Rock" in five previous appearances. Wolak Fills In For Gomez to Battle Chavez December 4!

Top-10 contender Pawel “Raging Bull” Wolak will be In Harm’s Way on Saturday, December 4, when he challenges undefeated WBC Silver middleweight champion Julio César Chávez, Jr. in a 12-round title fight. Wolak replaces the injured Alfonso Gomez, Chávez’s original opponent, who withdrew today after an MRI detected a ligament tear in his left elbow.

Wolak (27-1, 17 KOs), from Mount Arlington, enters this fight riding a two-year, six-bout winning streak, with three of those victories coming by knockout. The combined record of the last three opponents he defeated — James Moore, Ishmail Arvin and Carlos Nascimento – had a combined record of 56-4-4 when he fought them, which translates into an impressive 88% winning percentage. His last fight, a 10-round unanimous decision victory over Moore (17-2), was fought on the historic Yuri Foreman-Miguel Cotto undercard at Yankee Stadium on June 5. He is currently world-rated No. 7 by the WBA.

"Everything worked out well", said Wolak, who almost fought Chavez previously before the bout fell apart. "I had another fight December 16 so I will be in good enough shape to fight him. We are just finalizing some things (in training) and I don't have to lose any (extra weight)."

North Bergen, NJ - Unbeaten heavyweight boxer Mariusz "The Polish Giant" Wach will face experienced journeyman Galen "Bad Boy" Brown this Friday November 12 at the Twin River Event Center in Lincoln, Rhode Island.

The six-round heavyweight bout will be a part of “Homecoming King”, presented by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports, Inc (CES) in association with DiBella Entertainment and Twin River .

The 30-year-old Wach (22-0, 10 KO) of North Bergen, NJ by way of Krakow, Poland was scheduled to face Kevin Burnett on last week's Zab Judah vs. Lucas Matthysse undercard in Newark, NJ but was disappointed when his opponent never showed up to the weigh-in. In prime shape, Wach now turns his attentions to the 29-year-old Brown (33-14-1, 20 KO) of Saint Joseph, Missouri.

Introducing Mariusz Wach!

North Bergen’s Mariusz Wach came quite a long way on his journey to the Garden State; from Krakow, Poland to be exact. The 6’7 260 lb heavyweight sports a perfect 22-0 record with 10 KO’s and was a crowd favorite in his native country, where he racked up 15 victories. This still wasn’t enough to satisfy him.

Wach, whose surname is pronounced vahk, entered the United States in September 2010 with his sights set on becoming the first Polish heavyweight champion. Dubbed as the “Polish Giant”, Wach is working tirelessly at becoming a more complete fighter under the watchful eye of Paterson’s Aroz “Terrific” Gist at Global Boxing Gym. I had the opportunity to catch up with the soft spoken big man, who fights this Saturday at the Prudential Center in Newark vs Kevin Burnett.

Garden State Fight Scene: On Saturday you will be taking a fight against an experienced opponent in Kevin Burnett. What do you know about him?

Mariusz Wach: I know the basics about him such as his height and weight. I also know he has fought some good opponents.

GSFS: Have you seen any tapes?

MW: Yes I saw his fight with (Odlanier) Solis.

GSFS: You have had most of your fights in Poland however there is a large Polish community in North Jersey. Are you going to feel like you’re at home at the Prudential Center even though its more than 3,000 miles from Poland?

MW: Yes, I expect a lot of people to come to the fight because Polish people love boxing and sports in general.

GSFS: You’ve been boxing since 2005 and are closing in on becoming a contender. Do you think that a fight against a former world champion or contender type opponent will come in the near future?

MW: The most important thing right now is the fight against Burnett. After that, I will see what is next.

GSFS: Since moving to New Jersey from Poland you’ve been training at Global Boxing. A lot of guys come in and out of this gym to workout. Compare the training here to how it was in Poland.

MW: There are a lot of different boxers here so I have to train hard to prove how good I am. In Poland there were only a few different fighters to train with so (the training) wasn’t as hard. In Poland when you lose four fights it’s like the end of the road, but in the US, if you lose four fights against great opponent it's not that big of a deal.

GSFS: Describe your style and why fans should look forward to seeing you fight.

MW: I would say I have a style a bit like Klitschko. The jab is a very important part of my fighting.

GSFS: I’m sure that you are well aware that Tomasz Adamek is widely regarded as the best Polish heavyweight. Adamek fought Andrew Golota in Poland and it was a huge fight. If the two fought in Newark, it would have been big as well. Can you see yourself fighting Adamek or do you two have a friendship that would prevent that?

MW: If they made me an offer to fight Adamek, I would take it! This is business and this is boxing. I think Tomasz is going to fight (one of the) Klitschko’s soon, so why would he fight me?

GSFS: What can fans expect from you against Kevin Burnett?

MW: I am very confident about this fight and am going to give the fans a good show. I hope all my fans are there to watch the fight.
