Amateur Boxing Update: McNeeley invited to Camp Klitschko; Hackensack PAL Team to compete in National Silver Gloves!





Paterson’s Norman McNeeley will join unified heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko’s training camp for his March 20 title defense against Eddie Chambers. Known locally as “Pooh”, the 20 year old McNeeley is a standout amateur, winning the National Silver Gloves and Junior Olympics among others.



Klitschko’s assistant trainer Ali Bashir reportedly discovered McNeeley during a sparring session with former title contender Monte Barrett and was highly impressed with what he saw. McNeeley, who trains at Ike & Randy’s in Paterson, leaves next week for the Austria based camp.



Hackensack PAL Team Looking to Shine at National Silver Gloves



Five young fighters from the Hackensack Police Athletic League are heading to Kansas on Wednesday with hopes of returning with a National Silver Gloves Championship. The team is lead by nine time National and four time World amateur champion Julian “Hammer Hands” Rodriguez.



Rodriguez is amongst the best amateurs in the country, sporting a sensational 97-7 record. Rodriguez served as one of newly crowned IBF Junior Flyweight champion Carlos Tamara’s sparring partners leading up to his fight with Brian Viloria. The 15 year old North Bergen native has also been featured in a number of newspaper/TV stories.



Joining Rodriguez is Trent Tedesco (178 lbs), Jimmy Serra (75 lbs), Isaac Cuellar (70 Lbs) and 145 Isaiah Castanon. The PAL team won both state and regional tournaments, earning them an invite to the Nationals. The National Silver Gloves take place February 3-6.
