Manager and Trainer Joe Botti informed GSFS that his prized pupils Jason "Monstruo" Escalera will battle rugged George "El Gallo" Armenta while Juan "The Beat" Rodriguez is set to square off against Marqus Jackson Saturday, October 16 in their hometown of Union City.
The hard hitting Escalera, who is 9-0 with 8 knockouts, is taking a big step up in competition against an experienced opponent. At 13-6 (11 KO's), Armenta has wins over 2000 US Olympian Dante Craig and fringe contender Irving Garcia. The Silver Spring, MD native also has close decision losses to former WBA Junior Middleweight champion Yuri Foreman and world rated contender Mark "TNT" Tucker.
Escalera-Armenta is scheduled for six rounds in the super middleweight division.
With a perfect record of 3-0 with 2 KO's, Rodriguez is coming off a first round stoppage of Mike Denby in April. Jackson, 2-2 (2), of Atlanta, GA, most recently was stopped by 2008 Olympic Bronze Medalist Yordenis Ugas in their August 18 bout.
Rodriguez meets Jackson in a four round welterweight contest.
